The rest of the week is similar to the start of the week. Warm and pleasant. Not awesome for flying, but certainly good for 300's across most of the UK into the weekend.

Top covery stuff could end the days early, but all in all, not a bad outlook.

PS. If any Junior, who was involved in the RA(T) issue, is reading the crap on URASB don't pay any notice. People will never let the truth get in the way of a good story!!! Anything to get at Juniors. We are all obviously very rich, with no thoughts for anyone else other than ourselves according to the idiots on that site. The powers that be are dealing with the whole issue so ignore it all.

Please don't let those numpties try and put you off XC and comp flying...believe me comps can be the best form of flying you can do. Don't let one random event get in your way.

After possibly the worst week of my flying career it is back on with the season. Yesterday looked epic...the ladder was already looking pretty full when I looked at 7pm last night.

The rest of the week is going to be good. The Met Office are saying it should be decent even on Saturday...they obviously haven't seen that it is actually interclub league finals day at Wittering...

Anyway, sorry for no updates recently, however Bicester was that much fun, that I couldn't get near a computer.

Everyday this week should be good for 300 across most of England. If you have taken the week off, or you are a student, or retired, you lucky buggers!!!

Outlook for the Juniors update

The Mynd Forecast: Mainly fair and dry on Thursday with rain and drizzle setting in overnight. Friday
we expected a lot of low cloud, mist and drizzle in the morning then brighter with a few showers for the
afternoon, a few heavy. Friday stays unsettled with some showers or bits of rain with Sunday looking like the
best day with a dry, sunnier day to come.

The Roch: Saturday does not look particularly encouraging. Sunday looking better for a lateish start.

Lasham: Saturday: a bit duff?

Me: I think Saturday looks pretty poor to be honest, however Sunday may possible just maybe on the off chance of a small miracle have a small window in the afternoon. Good for a min distance task possibly...this is better than earlier forecast, so perhaps there is a trend that Sunday will actually be ok.

The week looks a bit on and off...I think there will be a fair bit of grid squatting with some short sharp tasks in between the showers.

Most parts of the UK should have a fine start to the period, though eastern and southeastern areas will be more unsettled with showers or rain with strong winds in eastern coastal areas. Northwest Scotland is also likely to turn cloudier with some light rain by mid-week. Temperatures away from the cloudier areas will be near or just above normal. Later next week conditions will become more unsettled across a wider area with most parts having some rain or showers at times, best of the brightness then to the south and east. The weekend and first part of the following week may see the unsettled conditions becoming more confined to the northwest, with rising temperatures elsewhere.

Lets hope it is a bit more settled than what they have predicted...

I hate to say it but this week doesn't look like getting that much better unfortunately. It will be flyable, and I am sure there will be 2 - 3 days left of the comps that are happening, however I can't see any big distances being done.

Today still a small possibility of it being OK for some local soaring. It should overdevelop almost everywhere, but with pressure rising, it may just hold off in places.

Today could be OK if you are in the south and don't want to go too far...looks pretty damp and unstable, but maybe soarable until mid afternoon when it will most likely go to worms. It will be interesting to see what the ladder says this evening.

Thursday and Friday still look fairly useless, however Friday is looking better than it was...High pressure starting to float around a bit.

Saturday is the first sign of a decent "ish" day. Ridge of high pressure pushing up from the South West but with fronts out to the west. Could go either way.

In short: today is the best you are gonna get. Rest of the week looks dire at the moment. Fronts floating across for most of the week, so the odd area of soarable conditions followed by rain, overdevelopment and misery.

Here is the Metoffice long ranger for next week when the Clubs and Bicester regionals are on...

Mainly dry conditions this weekend, though some heavy or thundery showers are possible in southeast England at first and occasional rain is also likely in northwestern areas. Windy at times in the northwest and temperatures generally near normal. For the following week and weekend, the northern half of the UK is likely to be rather unsettled with spells of rain or showers, although with some drier and brighter days as well. Temperatures here mostly near normal and still the chance of some rather windy conditions at times. More settled in the south, where it should stay mainly dry with lighter winds and some sunshine. Becoming warm or very warm again in southern areas, with the highest temperatures likely to be towards the southeast.

Hampshire workmen paint white lines around dead badger

The dead badger has been removed and the lines will be painted Workmen painting white lines on a road left a gap for a dead badger because they said it was not their responsibility to move it.

The animal had been killed about a week before on the A338 near Downton, on the Hampshire-Wiltshire border.

Hampshire County Council said the workers did what they thought "was best" because it is the district council's job to remove carcasses.

The badger has now been removed and the painting will be completed on Friday.

The county council said there would be no extra cost to taxpayers because the company was being paid a fixed rate for the job.

Businessman Kevin Maul was on his way home from work when he noticed the break in the lines.

He said: "I couldn't quite believe my eyes when I saw this poor old badger who had been there over a week.

"I'd seen him every day as I went by and wondered if he was going to be picked up.

"Then on Friday I drove home to see his body between the lines - they had painted the road, but left a gap where he lay."

Hampshire County Council is responsible for the line painting but New Forest District Council is responsible for clearing road kill.

The two failed to arrange the clearance before line painting began.

'Not trained'

Mel Kendal, county council environment chief, said: "We would usually liaise with our colleagues at the district council who dispose of animal carcasses on the highways to ensure the badger was removed before the white line painting crew did this stretch of road.

"This appears not to have happened in this case and the white line painting crew did what they thought was best until arrangements could be made to dispose of the carcass.

"These arrangements have now been made and the gap in the white lines will be filled in, at no extra cost to the council tax payer."

Council contractor Amey said the staff from sub-contractor Bellstan were not "licensed or trained" to remove road kill.

Those of you old enough to remember 2007 may well remember my awning taking off in the strong winds at Tibenham...well its Lasham, its 2010, and I got back from work to find the awning not completely attached to the caravan :( Thanks to Luke and Becki Dale for helping me retrieve the various pegs, poles and sombreros that had been scattered across the campsite at Lasham

Anyway, that is a long way of saying today was horrific. Tomorrow looks pap too.

Today looks pretty decent...looking out the window and at sat24 it looks like a bit of cirrus could bugger things up, but I think it should be good for a 300+ for most of the country..

The rest of the week could be a bit more tricky. Various fronts and odds and sods hanging around. Best area is the South East and Midlands, whilst the West and North look less likely to do much.

This week is not looking fantastic...there will be the odd 300 on the ladder I am sure, but strong winds, top cover etc will limit the areas of good soaring. I personally would give Friday a 2.

Saturday is a different story. South and East if a line between Bristol and the Humber looks very nice. 4-5k cloud bases, 4-5kt average thermals...could be a 500 day. Getting going by 10am, and should keep going until 5ish, perhaps later.

Sunday: a day to take your other half out I think...enjoy Saturday flying then have a day relaxing on the Sunday.

Monday looks damp, although is high pressure, so who knows...although there is a comp at Nympsfield...I['ll let you make your own minds up!!!

Tuesday - Not great, but could have some XC potential in the South and into the midlands

Well, it is pretty hard to say at the moment what is going to go on really.

Tomorrow looks OK ish...more blue but less wind across most of the UK...the further south and west you are the better.

Saturday is the tricky one...RASP says east west split...with East being pants, west being very good...whilst the Met office etc all say good across the country. My personal opinion is that there will be a load of clag dragged off the North sea that washes out a load of the East and Midlands...It will all depend on whether the Low that is out to the East and how it moves...if it is closer to the UK, then that is curtains for the day, however if the HIgh moves it out of teh way, then we are in for a decent weekend.

I will now remove the splinters from my bottom where I have been sitting on the fence.

Just a quick one as I'm on my iPhone in a car park in southsea.

Today and tomorrow could be very strong but...the closer to the east you get the worse it will be. Slow start in places as it is pretty damp out there but soon turning to streets...not sure on cut off but fairly early due to cool winds.

North Easterly flow this week...which is great for those in the South West...not so great for clubs futher east.

Today is probably too unstable and damp to be much good. Lots of showers indispersed with some strong climbs.

Then as the week carries on it is all much of a muchness. Decent days that could be ruined in the East by stong North Easterlies (20kts before the end the week). However it looks decent enough air, so could street nicely, so it is not a write off by any means.

Tomorrow looks OK...gets better the longer the afternoon goes on. Cold Front on its way, and may bring some overdevelopment towards the end of the day. No really strong climbs 3-4 kts in the South and East stretching up past the midlands...Wales looks like it is already affected by the front.

Saturday could be OK depending on where the front is. Could be some crud associated. It is also inter club league weekend at Wittering, so avoid there as it is bound to be raining.

Tuesday: Useless for everything apart from working...if you don't have a job then perhaps re-wire his/her instrument panel for your pilot...

The rest of the week looks better. Basically a rather large high pressure is coming our way.

Wednesday, the remainder of an occluded front may mess up the East of the UK, but it will get better as the day goes on. Could be very good but depending on the speed the front clears off.

The rest of the week appears to get more stable as the high pressure sits over us. BBQ weather most of the week I reckon.

Friday sees some fronts coming in. Could be good pre-frontal stuff, but could also be pants. There is a ridge of high behind it heading into the weekend, so it will be all down to the speed of the fronts.

Concorde back to the skies?

Work starts in £15m plan to get Concorde flying

Concorde completed its last commercial passenger flight in 2003
The engines on a French Concorde are to be examined as the first move in a £15m project aiming to get the supersonic passenger jet back in the air.

The Rolls Royce engines of the former Air France Concorde will undergo an initial examination to see what work needs to be done to start the engines.

Concorde was retired seven years ago, but it is hoped the jet could return to flight in a heritage capacity.

The tests by a French-British team will take place at an air museum near Paris.

The work at the Le Bourget Air and Space Museum is being done through a partnership between the British Save Concorde Group, SCG, and a French group Olympus 593.

'Critical date'

Vice-chairman of SCG Ben Lord said: "Today marks the most critical date in Concorde's history since she was retired almost seven years ago.

"Two members of our management team are in France this weekend to observe these amazing developments.

"SCG has always maintained that she could return to flight in a heritage capacity, and the findings of today will hopefully go an awfully long way to proving our point.

After today, we will know exactly what needs to be done with those four engines

"This is just the beginning, but we are delighted and privileged to be working with a team of skilled Concorde engineers who both worked on the aircraft at British Airways and Air France."

The tests will first establish whether the engines can be safely started and whether the aircraft could complete a ground taxi.

Mr Lord said: "After today, we will know exactly what needs to be done with those four engines in order to take this to the next stage of engine test runs with an objective to hopefully perform a ground taxi."

It is hoped the jet will be able to fly as part of the opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics.

Meanwhile, the trial over the Concorde crash that killed 113 people in Paris in 2000 ended on Friday after four months.

The Air France Concorde crashed soon after take-off, after hitting a metal strip from a Continental jet that had taken off earlier.

The French court said it would give a verdict on 6 December.

There is a front moving from the North West to the South East...

After the front there is some mucky stuff, which anyone south of Oxford area will be in at present, however it is clearing fairly quickly and the air behind is good. Possible showers later on in the West. South and South East are probably the places to avoid if possible.

Friday looking good. 4-4.5k cloudbase 4-5 knt thermals across the country. This is also similar to next Tuesday...I say this as it proves the point that Bank Holiday should be moved...Sat, Sun and Monday will all be hit and miss...possible soaring days, but its a bit all over the place

Today was your last day for sunbathing I'mn afraid. Tomorrow is going to start getting cooler, however still be warm enough to wash the trailer for your pilot, and maybe check the tyres, bulbs etc.

Wed is hardwaxing day...no not ure legs, but ure pilots glider. The weather is going to be fairly horrible. Make sure you do not concentrate on one area, but instead to swooping strokes of the hardwaxer and keep plenty of wax on it.

Thursday and Friday, could be flyable, so make sure you don't go shopping too early in the morning, and don't be too late back...make sure you buy a few beers to either console him/her or congratulate.

WeatherWag will be a forecast for the WAGS (and Boyfriends and Husbands...BAH'S???) of the pilots. Hopefully to include what time shopping (or golf) could commence once your pilot has taken off, and more importantly what time he/she may be back. Bikini/Mankini weather will also be given consideration.

Anyway, today and tomorrow will be good for 4k cloudbases. However, cloudbase may be the wrong term as its probably going to be quite blue.

Visibility will be similar to putting your head in some pea soup and trying to do the cross word ie useless.

Sunday will be slightly worse than Saturday, but still good for 2-300km in the south.

However, its not going to be epic, so maybe a one of the days spent earning brownie points may be the best use of time.

Re shopping times: you can probably get away at 11:30 today but be back 5pm as your pilot probably wont be any later than that.

Saturday: looks good. No magnificent cloudbases but enough to make me cry whilst I am at work on Saturday morning.
Sunday: looks OK in the South East upto around the midlands area. North of that not so great unfortunately. Looks like a front moving south east as the day progresses. Dunstable, Lasham etc will have a nice long day, the further north you go the shorter the day will be.
Monday: worse than Sunday
Tuesday: the last of this present heatwave. South East looking good(ish) but is a long way away yet.

This is a fantastic opportunity working with the Volleyball Events Manager, responsible for the delivery of the Volleyball competitions in 2012.

Job description
The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) has been established as the organisation that will plan and stage the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012.

There are currently 26 sports on the Olympic programme and 20 sports on the Paralympic programme. There are athletes from 205 National Olympic and 165 National Paralympic Committees competing in the events. A total of 384 athletes are expected to participate in the Olympic Volleyball programme, across two disciplines: Volleyball (288) and Beach Volleyball (96). Also expected are 192 athletes in the Paralympic programme in the discipline of Sitting Volleyball.

The responsibilities of the Sports department include planning and organisation of the sports competitions and sports input into the briefs for venue design. Also required are identification of training venues, test event planning and the development of the competition schedule.

Managers will be appointed for each of the Volleyball disciplines over the next 18 months. The first of these is for the Beach Volleyball Manager for Olympic Beach Volleyball. Until all of the Managers are appointed, the Beach Volleyball Manager will be required to work across all of the Volleyball disciplines.

Key responsibilities/accountabilities:
•Working with the Volleyball Events Manager, responsible for the delivery of the Volleyball competitions, ensuring the competition is organised and conducted in accordance with International Federation (IF) rules and regulations, International Olympic Committee (IOC) Charter and the Host City Contract.
•In conjunction and agreement with Volleyball Events Manager, liaise with the IF Technical Delegates and National Governing Body (NGB) on matters relating to the preparation of the competition.
•Manage communications and consultation with the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) Technical Delegates in relation to competition issues in an appropriate manner.
•Represent the requirements of Beach Volleyball within the Beach Volleyball working group and with stakeholders as required to ensure effective event delivery.
•Liaise as agreed with other LOCOG functional areas to ensure the coordinated delivery of support services such as accreditation, security, transport, medical, media, villages, venue operations, venues, host broadcaster and volunteers.
•Work with colleagues and other functional areas to ensure delivery of the official LOCOG Test Event for Beach Volleyball and support other disciplines as required.
•Work with Volleyball Events Manager, FIVB and LOCOG colleagues to ensure the sport equipment list is comprehensive and delivered in a timely manner for test event and Games competition.
•Work with the Volleyball Events Manager to develop an appropriate organisational structure and appropriate staffing levels for the conduct of the competition including recruitment, training and management of staff and volunteers.
•Collaborate with NGB regarding the selection and training of discipline specific National Technical Officials.
•Perform additional duties as required by the Volleyball Events Manager.
•All of the above apply equally to both the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Today looking beautifully unstable. Already towering cu outside my window down in the south. I think it will be good this morning with a tendancy for showers and overcooking in the afternoon.

Friday looks like and East West split...East could be very good, however showers and overdevelopment could be an issue again. West looks pap.

Saturday and Sunday aren't really worth the effort to type. It is interclub league weekend again. I personally am "flying" at Cranwell, so I can guarantee at least 6 inches of rain there. The rest of the country will be hit by various fronty looking things, with good sunny spells but showers galore. One to spend with the girly/boyfriend or on your own if you are Matt Davis.

Barrow Wake viewpoint (Matt's House?) is a notorious site for sexual activity

A fake brown tourist sign, pointing to an "official dogging area" at a Cotswold beauty spot has been ripped down by angry residents.

It was put up on the A417 at Birdlip and points towards the Barrow Wake viewpoint - a notorious site for public sexual activity.

David Parkinson said Barrow Wake's reputation was a problem for local residents and the sign did not help.

Police said they were aware of their concerns and were addressing them.

'Stranger sex'

Mr Parkinson said: "It does tend to make the lives of local residents impossible.

"The viewpoint itself is one of the best in the area, giving fantastic views across Gloucestershire.

"You park there and you get accosted by people after 'stranger sex', I believe the terminology is. It's become a no-go area for residents."

He said the sign looked very much like an official one, but he was planning to burn it on a bonfire.

Gloucestershire police inspector, Phil Offord, said an operation addressing the residents' concerns was ongoing.

"One of the key elements of the operation is to encourage local residents to report any incidents in the area," he said.

"Our priority is to ensure that the area remains safe and beautiful for all those that live, work and visit here.

"We would like to encourage people to talk to the local policing team about any concerns they have for the area and also to report any illegal or suspicious activity so that appropriate action can be taken."
